Summary
Vlas Von Heildvic sets his sights on Amber Black and will stop at nothing to take her. She is the key to his future, one where he rules the world. The Protectorate can’t let her fall into the wrong hands, but Maverick’s structured ways mangle the operation, leaving her vulnerable. Once bitten, Amber runs off, scared of what she is becoming. Maverick has to change his ways to save Amber and keep her from altering the balance of power in the vampire world. If he loses Amber to the forces of darkness, the world will forever change, leaving humans under vampire control.

Excerpt

Maverick stepped back and looked her up and down. The feelings shooting through her made her wonder if she’d chosen the wrong time to be trustworthy. They were alone in the middle of the woods, and she had no idea who he was.
“I think I’m a bit like you.”
Fear erupted in her belly. “What do you mean?”
“Under all that excitement you feel about your new degree, there’s fear. Isn’t there?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
He stepped closer, his height overshadowing her. “There’s one thing you didn’t tell me.”
“What?” Her heart beat rapidly as she searched for an escape.
“Don’t fear me, sweet Amber. Fear the one who gave you these.” Maverick reached up and pushed her high turtleneck aside. He touched her neck where the mark of the bite marred her skin.
Pain shot through her neck and pulsed down her body. “What did you do?”
“Nothing. You know I did nothing.”
“Then what was that?” She tried to move away from him, but she couldn’t budge.
“I know what he did, and I know what you’ll become.”
She spun away from Maverick and took off back towards campus. How could anyone know? Her heart pounded as her arms and legs pumped. All of the sudden he was right there in front of her. She slid to a stop.
“Amber, you can’t fight the change, but I can make it where you don’t regret the decisions you will make.”
“I don’t want or need your help.” For a moment she wondered if she should scream, run, or fight. Convincing the police this guy was crazy wouldn’t be hard. She could make a scene and then get away.
“Yes you do need my help. Whatever Vlas told you, the promises he made, they were lies.”
She shifted uneasily, wondering about Vlas and what he had said. “He made no promises.”
“You’re lying. Promises were made.”
She took off running, her legs carrying her faster than she had expected. In the river, there were a few barges transporting goods. She thought about calling to one of the boatmen when something hit her in the back and forced her to the ground. His arms came around her, and they rolled down the hill away from the river. He flipped on top of her, pinning her into the soft grass.
Maverick stared down at her, his eyes showing compassion. “I’m a bit amazed, but I like you a lot. More than I’ve like other vampires I’ve met over the years.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” The press of Maverick’s body on hers turned her insides to jelly. Having this man on top of her shouldn’t feel so delicious, but it did. Her body responded, betraying her with its desire. The guy was obviously crazy and not to be trusted.
“Yes, you do. In about eight days you’ll need that second bite, and only Vlas can give it to you. So, you have to go back because he’s the only one who can help.”
She shook her head, wondering how her life had turned from normal to totally crazy.
“You’ll want to go to him again. Right now you’re probably in some denial, but soon it’s going to be too hard to refute what’s happening to you.”
Her head ached and her stomach rolled. Maverick’s words didn’t make sense. He had to be lying. “How do you know?”
“Watch.” Maverick curled up his lips. For a second nothing happened and then she saw the fangs extending.
As his teeth elongated, hers began to ache. She ran her tongue along her teeth, half expecting to feel fangs, but nothing was there.
“I can help you. But you must come to me after he bites you the second time.”

Summary
Megan never meant to hurt her best friend, Anna. She made a mistake, and she's spent all year trying to regain Anna's trust. So when Anna invites her to spend the summer on her uncle's farm, Megan is excited and relieved. The past is finally behind them.

On the farm, Anna quickly falls for Jordan, a rugged summer-hand. Megan and Jordan have their own spark, but Megan's betrayed Anna once before and she's not about to do it again.

Still, the more time that Megan and Jordan spend together, the harder it is to deny their chemistry. But Anna doesn't like to be ignored and she doesn't forgive and forget. What started out as the perfect summer is about to take a very dark turn...

Review
I have never read anything like this before and I have got to say it was pretty good. The novel has some weak points, which involve its low amounts of tension builders and scary scenes, along with very predictable moments, it does make up these points through the well given image of the farm. The characters do give me trouble as they have personalities that I, personally, have problems with.

Anna is an outright brat that just drives me up the wall. She always tears down her friend, Megan. As you read the story, she is found making fun of her and treating her badly, while Megan just wants everything to be right with each other. You can just tell that there is something wrong with Anna. Now with Megan, my problem with her is that she is too weak. Megan is too much of a teenager with a strong soft side, which is shown through her actions of never standing up for herself and just takes the abuse given to her by Anna. Her character does have good points, as she does digs deep down into herself to manifest all the courage she has to protect those she cares for and the farm. Megan is just a character that most boys would love.

The novel has a slow start before reaching the more interesting parts and the ending is a shocker; which does make me wish there was more. “Never let you go” is really an intriguing young adult novel, and I can say, without a doubt, that I will definitely look into reading more books written by this writer.

 Interview
What books did you love growing up?
Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden and the Hardy Boys of course; Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, The Lord of the Rings Series.

Who is your favorite author?
It’s a tie- Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Marion Zimmer Bradley

What book genre of books do you adore?
Paranormal, fantasy and horror but I read everything – as long as the book holds my attention for the first ten pages I’ll read it.

How do you write – lap top, pen, paper, in bed, at a desk?
It depends on where I am and what I have available. If I’m caught out its pen and notebook that I always have in my handbag. Mostly its my PC during the day, and my iPad at night if I’m writing in bed. If I do get away for the weekend or am away from the house for a few days it’s the laptop.

How often do you write? And when do you write?
I try to write every day. I think creativity in writing is like a muscle and if you stop using it it tends to get lazy. I try to do 3k a day and sometimes when I do want to push I do 5k a day. It’s a rush and can sometimes get crazy if I have edits happening at the same time but I love it more so because I hate the feeling when I can barely write 500 words in a day. Then I feel a little useless because I know I can do more.
I usually write first thing in the morning until lunchtime and sometimes I may come back to write a little more late at night when the household is asleep.

Do you find the time to read?
As a writer you must find time to read. I think reading is inspiration and most writers need the creative input of reading to boost their own creativity. At least it works that way for me. I find I’m most prolific in terms of plotting and writing when I make the time to read.

What inspires you to write and why?
Everything inspires me, especially people and culture. I’ve always been fascinated with the way the mind works so that’s something that I question a lot when I’m working on a project.

What genre are you most comfortable writing?
Definitely paranormal/fantasy. I love mythology and fables. I love the mystery of the possibility of the impossible J

Who designed the cover?
My cover artist Eduardo Priego

Will you write others in this same genre?
Yes, definitely. I love writing YA and I especially love mythology. I already have a few stories to look at in terms of what’s next on my project list

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully still writing and still loving it as much as I do now.

What contributes to making a writer successful?
If you apply yourself, set your goals, write those books and don’t be afraid of hard work success is waiting for you. And working at you craft is so very important. Writers are learning all the time, be open to learning new ways, new styles, new tricks. If you are happy to continue learning and being a better writer then you are on your way. It’s just a matter of working hard and writing well.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
A glass of wine and a good book at the end of the day, or dinner and a movie with DH to make it more special

Do you have any special ways of handling/creating your world building?
I don't really. It depends on the book. For some I've done mind-maps like for the DarkWorld I sketched a map out of the different parts or levels of the world and where the creatures and characters, what their powers were etc. But it's mostly just how I feel the flow. For the Valkyrie and the Kali series, the world building was very dependent on the mythology I drew from which was good and bad in its own way- easier but slightly restrictive

What is the best thing about being a YA writer?
I'd have to say I don't see myself as only a YA author. I've written NA (Skin Deep, and Seals of Hades – still to be published), contemporary, horror, epic fantasy and psychological horror (all still to be published) and YA (Valkyrie and Kali series) so I will delve where the Muse takes me. That's probably the funnest thing for me- the ability to mess around in fantasy fiction and nobody can say you can or can't do that!
What is the worst thing about being a YA writer?

The worst thing I can see is there's so much to write, so many ideas and characters to get into manuscripts that it's sometimes hard to choose which one to get on to next!

Author
I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes… I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It’s a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each other's loves – it works wonderfully…

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands – I shall forever remain cross-eyed.

Summary:
How can love mend a heart full of hate?

Small town girl, Molly Bennett, moves to Los Angeles where she becomes an outsider while attending Beverly Hills High School. It seems life cannot be any more dreadful. Then one day after school, something magical happens. On a secluded hike in the Hollywood Hills, Molly chases her disobedient mutt and only friend into a hidden cavern. She stumbles upon a strange glimmering gateway that transports her to Arkana, a planet that is the cradle of an advanced human race. There, teenagers navigate amazing flying vehicles, compete in perilous games for glory, and possess supernatural powers. While Molly tries to wrap her mind around this unbelievable discovery, she meets the alluring and mysterious Victor Sorren. He is a Sentinel Apprentice, whose hatred toward people from Earth is beyond understanding. Yet every time Victor unpredictably saves Molly's life, his heart draws closer to hers, no matter how much he tries to fight against it. It further complicates things that their growing friendship is strictly forbidden. Earth people are prohibited in Arkana, yet Molly continues to cross through the portal to Arkana to see Victor. Torn between their double lives, they go down a dangerous path, from where there is no return and multiple endings.

Fields of Elysium is a suspenseful romantic tale full of forbidden secrets, danger, deception, and the never-ending fight for true love.

I'm the author of the Fields of Elysium saga, which I like to call a young adult romantic fantasy. The first book of the series was inspired by amazing movies like Dirty Dancing, Avatar, and Twilight and earned praise from prestigious review companies and readers.
